For most people, chemo makes their hair fall out. Some people don't lose their hair, some of them lose some hair but not all, it depends. My cousin had chemo for her leukemia, and when part of it fell out, they went ahead and shaved the rest off. She lost even her eye lashes and eyebrows at one point, but now she is doing a lot better and in maintenence stage where they are less aggressive with the treatment. Along with hair loss, there is a host of other vicious side effects. She got so frail, so thin and pale at one point that her being bald was the least of her problems. She had a lot of joint pain and fatigue, plus weird cravings and a hard time with throwing up a lot. If you are that sick, it really becomes the least of your problems in having cancer. Now her hair is back in and it annoys the crap out of her when it won't lie down, it's too short to do much to.

Some chemo drugs do induce hair loss. The drug I'm taking doesn't. My hair feels like baby hair, very soft and fine. The only bald spots I have are from my radiation treatments to my head. They're already growing back except for the spot my surgeon peeled open. It's stil swollen with some fluid, so my hair won't grow till the swelling goes down more.

Totally depends on what kind of cancer they had and what stage the cancer was in.

Being someone who trusts people, I tend to believe them and want to know more. Although I may or may not feel other factors entered into their healing upon getting more facts and asking questions, I would be interested in hearing what they think worked and why. I would not think a cancer survivor had some ulterior motives but then I do tend to be very trusting and generally look for the good in all people for the most part. I feel most people deserves the benefit of the doubt and compassion especially for what they have been through as going through cancer diagnosis is not easy, I know as a survivor myself.

I just returned from China where they have developed a cancer treatment (natural) which addresses most cancers very successfully it is called OSW-1. The US is very skeptical of China and with their conventional medicine being what it is today with health care. It cost about $1000 US per month for treatment. Most Chinese can't afford this, but have health care for conventional treatment (chemo, radiation, surgery & drugs) without much success, they do use it in Europe mostly (Germany, France etc.) and other countries. There studies have shown it to be effective.

Why don't the doctor's tell you what is going to happen after your cancer treatment?
They don't tell you when you have throat cancer TX. that your teeth will fall out and you won't be able to eat the rest of your life and have a tube in your stomach for the rest of your life. Then since you don't have any saliva glands you don't have any spit then they tell you can't drink water any more because it is going to your lungs and you are likley to get peneuma. Whay can't they just tell you the f------g truth

Because they don't always know. It's kind of like "Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best". We want our doctors to be like G*ds, but the truth is that they are human just like everyone else. It sounds like you are or a loved one are having a tough time of it. I am sorry for you.

I really don't think it's an option. GOOD & humane doctors don't want to lay a trip on you, especially because they themselves are never certain how a specific person will respond. I think it's cruel when a doctor tells someone they have 3 months to live, & it turns out that they go on for years--this is such a delicate line from the doctor's point of view. TRULY. They most often don't have the answers. I don't think I'd want to be told the worst, when from my experience with people in chemo &/or radiation, for example, they have recovered in ways not expected. I understand, I do, that you're saying the "truth" should be told. But what is the truth? The oncologist of a friend of mine tried every way not to state an absolute, & IN THIS CASE the decision to be "gentle" didn't work at all. Certainly there are reasonable "expectations" a doctor considers, but do they ever truly know for sure? It must be a dreadful decision for them. One I don't envy. I think the bottom line to your question is that THEY DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. Then why scare the hell out of you? I don't know if you're talking about yourself, or someone else--feels like it's YOU. I'm so sorry...

A lot of times they don't know what is going to happen. My childhood best friend had throat cancer it was a really shi__y battle. She had a trach as well as what you just described. In the end she had to speak through a tube. But let me say this. She had a lot of years before her recurrence that eventually took her life. I myself have breast cancer and I believe the treatments are worse than the disease. Every bone in my body is aching and my teeth feel like they are going to fall out. I often think about stopping chemo. Do what makes you happy. Not because we have cancer but tomorrow we or anyone can have a tragic accident. No one else understands because you have to live it first.

i know how you feel...i had simular experince my dr told me i had breast cancer that spread to my liver and lungs, breast bone , pelvic bone. i then was having horrible pain in my legs and ask the nurse why my legs was hurting so bad ...so she looked at my records and said i see why...i forget the name of the bone,but the big bones in my legs was eat up with the cancer and also a few other spots he forgot to tell me like my spine. i was very upset. and also changed dr's. i can't image in your case...God bless you!

sorry to hear that....well having cancer depending on the type will not affect your unborn child, but treatment will... you need to speak with a doc and see what options you have vs. treatment effective time.... you may have to wait untill after the baby is born to start any treatment.... my guess is that it would have a negative effect on the baby, but don't base your actions on my speculations, you should just go talk to a doctor about treatments that wont affect a baby, I'm almost sure that chemo would be harmful, because basically chemo gets as close to killing you as possible, and the baby might be harmed, but there are lots of other treatments out there

I have an idea about how you feel I found a bump around my breast a couple of weeks ago but didn't tell my husband until yesterday I am having a c-section on friday dec 15th 2006 so I have decided that I am going to wait until the baby is born before I even tell my doctor about it because I don't want anything to happen to my baby. How far along are you. This will help you decide to seek treatment before or after the baby is born. Cancer treatments are not in the best interest of the baby but sometimes they are more in the best interest of the mother. I hope everything turns out ok for you Good Luck

The doctor would have to diagnose the cancer, so why didn't you ask him then? Cancer treatment can have extreme effects on the baby, worse than drinking or smoking. The radiation alone could kill it. Sorry to hear the news.
